Primary school teacher transfers suspended ahead of 14,384 new recruits
State Minister Bobby Hajjaj says transfers will resume after placement of newly recruited teachers
The government has indefinitely suspended transfers of government primary school teachers ahead of the placement of 14,384 newly recruited assistant teachers.
The suspension would formally take effect from September 8.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj announced the decision at a press conference at the Secretariat today, saying transfers would resume after the new teachers were placed.
“All transfers are now suspended because of the new recruitment of more than 14,000 (14,384),” Bobby said.
Journalists questioned why it could not take effect immediately, raising concerns that keeping the process open for another day could create scope for last-minute transfers and dealings.
Bobby said some administrative procedures, including processing the files and obtaining signatures, took time.
He, however, said he would try to have the files processed faster so that the suspension could take effect from today rather than waiting until September 8.
Bobby added that the suspension is temporary and that transfers would resume after the placement of the newly recruited teachers was completed.
Asked whether transfers would then continue under the existing policy, he said that would be decided later.
“After transfers resume, whether they will be conducted under the existing policy or under a different system will be communicated at that time,” he said.
Bobby stressed that no decision had yet been taken to change the existing transfer system.
